Much cleaner/safer than that stuff "hangin out"!
The system could be cleaned up like yours is, and get a couple benefits.
A. Safer.
B. Fewer connections to leak.
C. looks more professional.

I guess I don't understand why all the rail suppliers don't just thread the rails for the o'ring fittings.. Costs a $1 more??
