OK, hate to bring up an old thread but didn't want to start a new related thread just for my question.. I am building a carbed car and using the Summit blue twist lock hose (looks identical to the Earls Super Stock, though summit claims it isn't) with Summits fittings as well. Today, I had to pick up a short length to run from the carb to regulator and all they had locally was the Earls Super Stock with the push in and crimp ends. On a low pressure system (~7psi), do I really need to crimp it? The place that sold me the hose and fittings said you just slide the collar over the hose and push it together- they said nothing about needing a special tool to crimp them .

Also- I used oil on the fitting and a heat gun on the hose and it went right together. Is there any reason to be concerned about it popping back apart due to the oil on there? Thanks.
Joe

yes, the hoses do have similar properties and fittings pretty much identical.

Given they are rated at circa 250psi, what makes you think 7psi should cause a problem ?

Because the Earls fittings they sold me come with a collar that needs to be crimped (though thye look similar to the summit without the crimp collar..). I was wondering if I can get away without using the crimp collar on the earls fittings on my regulator to carb line. Since I am going against what it says to do, I just wanted to double check with those who have used this stuff before . Thanks.

Joe
They do not need to be crimped. They only suggest crimping if you will be running at near the hoses limits.

7psi is slightly below that

Gotcha. Thanks for the info, the local shop that sold them to me had no clue how to use them and I have never used this before either, so I was shocked when I saw that it had to be crimped where the Summit stuff doesn't.

Yeah, I am running just a bit below the max psi limit .

Piece of cake! I used SL-5 silicone grease used for primary voltage under ground cable. We use this stuff for terminating primary cable ends. Super slick, super tacky. Put a small dab on the barbs, and a small amount in the hose. Two hands and push! No tools needed. Super easy!

I've found that a little light oil (20wt or less) + heating the hose with a heat gun for a few seconds also works very well.

FRAGOLA hose and fittings. [I like the black fittings, as they match the hose.]
I go to the Fragola website, get all the pt numbers, and look them up at Summit. [They have them, just don't list all they have.]
As for assy:
I have a set of Aeroquip alum assy blocks for the vise.
I put the fitting in the vise, facing away from me. I pad the vise, warm the hose w/ a heat gun, and pull the hose onto the fitting, by resting my chest on the pad...An old guys way to do it! That saves trying to "push a rope"!
