Default How to make inline pump connection...

How do I make an inline pump work with my plastic 99 tank. Do I remove my complete pump set-up and use a bulk head? Which one? How do I keep my gauge working?

255 inlines are to be used with the factory pump... if its a large 420 or weldon/aeromotive pump then yes you would have to sump the tank.

to keep the gauge working, leave the sending unit in the tank.

Can the plastic tank be sumped? Anyone mount the 420 in the tank?

i think it would certainly be a hassle, not to mention dangerous if your first attempt wasnt perfect.

the Votech works (would rather have a Walbro intank). It should just unclip the fuel filter hose and go in between.

We have a pic of a Walbro inline pump installed at our site.

Just enter your vehicle, and click the Fuel&Coolin tab. Scroll down a bit. The Fuel pump hot wire kit we sell, also has a pigtail on it for those who run an intank and inline together.

LS1Speed and others:

Please explain or elaborate. I'm not posting to disagree, but need an explanation how an inline works with a intank pusher pump.

In a technical manual I've read that an inline doesn't help much because volume and pressure is determined by the weakest link in the fuel system.

We know the stock pump is the weak link because it can't supply the required volumes necessary for anything over 450-500 hp.

So how does the inline increase volume since it can only push what it gets(volume from the stock pump). I would think it would cavitate if the first pump can't supply the necessary volume.

Obviously the easy and cheaper way to go is to add an inline rather than pull the stock pump and replace it but, I don't understand how an inline can help if it is dependent upon the stock pump for volume.

Thanks

In theory, the intank pump ability to flow more volumewill increase because the inline pump is pumping against the 60 psi pressure (regulator). The pressure that the intank pump pushes against goes down which allows it to pump more volume. All pumps will pump more volume at zero pressure (open flow into a bucket) vs pumping against a pressure.....the trick qustion is what pressure does the intank pump see when the inline pump is pumping against 60 psi? Does it drop to 30 psi? Whatever the drop is will tell you the increase in volume in the stock pump if you know the pressure curve.
