The people that are running Walbro 340's in your 02 cars...

Did you install the pumps yourselves? What all was involved? Any special steps?

The pump is not different at all , the only difference is the sending unit . I installed mine myself , it was intimidating at first , but I just did a bit of research on the net with what other prople are doing and it was a snap , had it done in about an hour and a half start to finish .

I thought the whole point of this extended thread was that the 02 cars were different.

Did I misunderstand? I thought when Racetronix posted the following it was for 02 specific cars:

Because it requires a special type of pump that will work in combination with the fuel module's venturi system which keeps the pump immersed in fuel regardless of the level of fuel in the tank.
Everyone that is installing a standard Walbro pump is doing away with this function by punching a hole in the bottom of their fuel module so that the pump has a supply of fuel.

Is this just the 02 cars or was he talking about all 99-02 F-bodies?

There have been some cars reported as having metal gas tanks as late as 2000. As a rule the car's equipped with metal gas tanks were mostly in 1998.
The current Racetronix system only works in the F-LS1 cars equipped with a metal gas tank.

The F-LS1 cars equipped with plastic tanks all have fuel module which uses the venturi fill system which only functions with the factory pump assembly.

Why would GM just out of the blue , throw a metal gas tank in 99-02 f-body when all of the other ones had plastic tanks ? Where was this reported ? I am just curious ...

We have seen one at ARE and have had similar reports from other dealers.
Why would GM change fuel modules in a C5 half way through a production season?
This is not so uncommon but generally these deviations are with less visually obvious items. That is why it is always best to supply a VIN when buying parts for your car as oppose to just the make and model year.

For those who haven't been following this I've included some links to old threads. If you can wait, the Racetronix system will certainly be the best single pump intank solution.

I am runing a intank 255 and no problems at all. I ran a inline and it wasn't enough. So now I have both. My buddy and I did the install and didn't remove the tank. Works Great.

Drop the tank once and your opinion will change. Installing an access door was SO much easier plus nobody will ever see it since its under the carpet. I had to take my pump out 3 times! If I had to drop the tank that many times, I would of died. GM should of made an access door for the f-body.

An inline pump will still be limited from the restriction on the stock pump.

Just take your time and it will work out fine. As Rodent said, it is WELL worth doing. Remember that the 2002 unit is located back further than the the 1998 pump unit. Search for pictures of both (they are on the board somewhere) and you will see the difference.

The 99-02 are the same it is just getting the pump to sit in the plastic well correctly that is dificult.

A inline pump will not do you any good itcan`t pull more fuel through the pump in the tank than that pump is capable of pumping.

Have a GS340 in my 2002 Formula. Install was a bit tricky. It was not a direct bolt in. I had a shop do mine. Pump was 100, install 150.
Works great so far. (2K Miles)
