Default Question about ford 30# red tops...

I know they are rated at 36# on ls1's, but how much horsepower can they support?

Depends on the fuel pressure (more pressure = more flow = more hp) BSFC, and DC%. But a general rule of thumb is max hp = 16 times the flow rate @ rated pressure. So in this case 36 x 16 = 576 max hp. This assumes a BSFC of .5 and 100 % DC.

The math is:

36 #/hr per inj x 8 inj = 288 #/hr total fuel flow
288 #/hr / 0.5 lb/(hp hr) = 576 hp

So ballpark number is 576 hp at rated pressure, BSFC = .5 and 100% DC

Obviously you wouldn't want to run 100% DC so reduce that figure proportionally to your actual DC number.
