Default FUel pressure question

I run a stock 5.3L engine with an aeromotive A1000 pump. Was wondering what should be holding some fuel pressure in the system, the pump or the regulator in the stock line? I havent ran the engine for a significant amount of time yet but when i shut the engine down the fuel pressure drops to nothing right away. So, after that happens, the pump will prime but there will definitely be air in the system so it takes a while before the engine will restart. Or do i need to install something into the fuel system?

You need a drainback check valve in the line.
