pleas help!! Gas Gauge problem

pleas help!! Gas Gauge problem well, i recently installed my fuel pressure gauge and a/f ratio (light show) gauges...
well i drove the car today for the first time, and on the way to work the Check Gauges light came on the dash, and the gas gauge fell to below Empty...
i knew i had about a 1/4 tank in the car, and thought maybe the sender was messed up in the tank (though i haven't touched the fuel pump or tank at all) so i gave it about 3/4 WOT and the Check Gauge Light went out, and the gas gauge went up to 3/4 tank (which is wrong).
when i got to work i checked the fuses and they appeared to be fine, it's only the gas gauge that is malfunctioning.....I shut the car off and restarted it when i got to work, and it went to the right gas level...
any ideas on what is causing this?
