Default Fuel System Troubleshooting.....low fuel pressure w/ new pump

Well I just finished installing a Walbro 255lph fuel pump thinking that my old pump was giving up the ghost.

Turns out it may have not been the fuel pump.

I dropped the tank and installed the new pump with pretty much everything that came with the kit and cut a hole on the side of the bucket to let fuel in.

The car initially started but then she didn't want to crank. I thought maybe there would be something wrong with the electronics so I checked the relay. I bypassed it and the car started. I then switched it with another relay, used the one for the A/C, and she cranked. Let it sit for awhile and then she didn't want to crank. I bypassed the relay again and the car didn't crank.

While I was doing this I was pressing the schrader valve to check the fuel pressure. Initially I thought it was the fuel pump because on one occasion when the car died, I checked the pressure and the fuel flowed out. One of my buddies was with me, also has an LS1 T/A, and we decided to check his. His came out as a fine spray, indicative of high pressure.

Well with this new pump wether the car is off or on the fuel still flows out indicating low pressure. I don't know what the exact fuel pressure readings are at this point. Going to see if somone will lend me a fuel pressure guage to double check.

Anybody experience something like this or have any ideas of what it could be or what to check?

BTW I checked the voltage across the relay and it was 12V+ when the key was turned and ~14V when the car was on.

Thanks for any help

Frank

could it be the fuel pressure regulator?
