Aeromotive Fuel Pump Controller w/out tach adapter?

Aeromotive Fuel Pump Controller w/out tach adapter? Aeromotive assured me that their pump controller will not work without a tach adapter. I am currently running an Autometer tach off the PCM wire with no problems so it struck me as odd that the pump controller wouldn't work as well. Anyone know for sure on this?
