Default fuel gauge stuck on full 97 firebird

Hi everyone, Was hoping someone would have some input on this problem..I have a 97 Pontiac Firebird, last week I filled the gas tank, now the gas gauge will not go below the full mark...I was under the impression it was a faulty fuel level sensor, but was told by auto zone this car does not have one...So now I am totally clueless as to how the gauge would work without a level sensor unit ? I may be calling it by the incorrect name...But I am reffering to the float in the tank that reads the fuel level..

Any suggestions on what I can do to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated..

Apparently the people at Autozone have no idea what they are talking about. GM has had issues with the sending unit in the tank. Either that is bad, wiring is bad, or your cluster is bad. I would not be scared to throw a sending unit in it just based on the issues that GM has had with them.
