Default RPM Activated Switch to Switch a Aeromotive FPSC

Bought a FPSC on here and it ended up being bunk. Seems to work alright except for the rpm sensing portion. It throttles down the pump and speeds it up when the SWT is grounded.

So for $80 I can try a msd or autometer tach driver (although I already have "stepped up" the 5v signal with a 12v 680ohm 1/2 watt resisted step up wire which made my autometer tach work perfect and everyone I've talked to said that this should suffice for the aeromotive FPSC PWT signal wire)

For $340 I can get a new FPSC

Or for $44 I can get a RPM activated switch from summit and hook it up to a relay to drop ground to the FPSC at a desired RPM thus replacing the internal function that seems to be broken in the controller I have.

Any reason I shouldn't do this? I was also thinking that I could wire in a micro switch to turn the pump up during WOT regardless of rpm. Seems like a better option than an unlikely fix with the tach driver and without the expense of a new FPSC when this one throttles the pump just fine.
