Default Bulkhead fitting in 2000 sending unit

Has anyone successfully installed a bulkhead fitting (-8 or larger) in place of the stock feed line on the sending unit? I know the 98 and older cars can do this because of the fact it's made out of metal. If it's not recommended because of sealing my buddy is in a army aviation unit and can get his hands on some really tough sealer that will make sure it doesn't leak.

Chances are you do not need to change this connection.

We have cars in excess of 1000rwhp on the factory connection.
It takes some pretty extensive mods to create a leakproof seal in the sender.
