Default Just bought this car. Is this a trap door? (Pics)

I was getting ready to order a fuel pump, and on a whim I decided to check and see if it had one already I figured not, it's not on the build list I got from the dealership.

Well, I pulled up the carpet, and I found this.

Is this a trap door? If so, is there a way to make sure an aftermarket pump is in there? Casing color, ect?

EDIT: ADDED A PIC SHOWING MORE CLEARLY WHERE THE PLATE IS. IT'S BLACK, WITH NO VISIBLE WAY OF HOLDING IT ON... SO, GLUE, MAYBE?

It looks to me like it is but mine is more on the top where the fuel pump is located. I have never seen one where yours is but that is not to say that is not what it is. See if you could post a few better pictures.....to us viewers it is really hard to tell from the pics you have.

Ive never seen one there before and dont see how it would be possible to swap the pump with it there. But who knows.

Agreed, I just got done covering my hatch area with dynamat and I had a piece that looks exactly like that. It's GMs lame attempt to quiet that area of the car.

it's not on the top area, it's on the "back", right in front of where the t-tops go.

My surgery repair site is really hurting, so pulling the carpet is kind of out of the picture. I'll get on paint and show you where it is.

If you are gonna use the hatch/trap door method and your car is a 99-02 (98 is in a little different place due to having metal tank) this is the pic i would and did use to know where to cut but what i did different is instead of using a cut off wheel i drilled a hole in the 4 corners of my outline and used a set of air powered sheet metal clippers to avoid making sparks. And i would use silicone and screws to reseal another piece of metal. If your car is a 98 i can prob find a pic of that too if you already havent.

that link is dead, man.

Also, I edited the original post and put in an updated picture of where the plate is and added what it looks like.

BTW, I dont see any way a trap door could be in the spot in ur pic.
(I also cut about a 1/4" closer in on sides)
