Just wondering if anybody out there has been having any issues with the in-tank walbro 255lph pumps (also have a hotwire kit). I bought mine about a year ago, and have put less than 2,000 miles on it, and I think its starting to give me some issues. On cold start it has started running like complete *** for about a minute, then cleans up. And on two occasions it has cranked for a solid 10-15 seconds before finally starting up. Prior to this, car has always fired right up no problem. Any input?

 

hmm ive been running mine for nearly 2 years. more than 10k miles and not one issue. you sure its the fuel pump?

 

sounds like a fuel pressure or volume issue which could be in other parts of the fuel system or even in the tune.

 

Im not sure its the pump yet, was just kind of my gut instinct because of the long crank. I thought about it being a tune issue, but I had it tuned last december, and havent changed anything since. I have HP tuners, but dont really know how to use it. Ill have to stop being lazy I guess and bring home a fuel pressure gauge from work today and see if I can catch what its doing.

 

Just had a really wierd brainstorm. Wondering if my fuel solenoid is leaking from my nitrous kit. It would allow pressure to bleed down and fill the fuel line with air and cause a rough cold start, and allow it to long crank after its sat for a little while because it bled the fuel off into my intake. Both times it has long cranked on me, it was after the car sat for an hour or so (the fuel wouldnt have time to evaporate from the intake like on a true cold start). I pull it off tonight and check it out

 

just incase anybody was curious, I finally got around to looking into this. I pulled off my fuel line between my fuel solenoid and the nitrous plate, turned the key on, and watched it spit a bunch of fuel out. This confirms my earlier suspicion of the leaking solenoid. Ill have to give HSW a call and order their solenoid rebuild kits.

 

I always turn the key and listen for the pump to prime then I start the car.

but i have learned anytime i have a fuel issue i put a gauge on it and drive it around to see whats going on.
nothing worse than making assumptions that are costly.
