Default Walbro 450lph

Is anyone running this yet? Is it gonna be enough for about 650hp to the wheels for an FI car on e85? Or is there another single pump capable of that?

Magnafuel 4303 is a single pump that will support 650rwhp on E85, but it will cost a bit to get there.

I'm interested in seeing some size comparisons of the new 450lph vs the 255, and actual HP from a single pump vs the dual pump set up.

The place that's going to dyno tune my car has had good luck with the walbro 400 running e85 and ID 1000's with stock lines...good luck as in 650rwhp..

I wanted to do a single 400 but couldn't find any good results so I went with two 255's I already had laying around and they work nicely.

I am running a single Walbro 400/405/425/450 (whatever they are called lol) E85 pump in my NA setup. I am making 570rwhp NA. I don't know if I would trust a single 400 pump for 650rwhp with FI.

I agree I too would prefer a good single pump. Before I did the twins I was waiting for a walbro dealer to call me back about getting one of the new e85 400's and never heard back?

Bump. Any new results from anyone on this?

Looking to upgrade my 255. Cant decide on dual 255s or single 400. Will the 400 drop in replace my Walbro 255? Any need to modify the bucket?

X2

I dont know either to add another racetronix or go with the 400 set up. I think Denmah had that he was running dual 400s in his build thread.

I saw that. That's what got me thinking of this in lieu of dual 255s (a single 400). I'm finding more threads though that say that a single 400 will not work with the stock in-tank fuel pressure regulator. That it will overpower it at idle. Booo...
Can anyone attest to this?

Same thing I heard about the 400 overpowering the stock regulator. The 400 is also larger so you would need to do more extensive modifications to the bucket. I know you had bad luck with Aero340, have you considered the DW300?

You know, I've heard of the DW300 a while ago (when my AM340 went out), but didn't know enough about them.

Do you know if they are drop in replacements for the Walbro 255. Also, will they work with the stock in-tank fuel pressure regulator?

It's the same physical size as a 255 but it doesn't have the venturi so you would need to cut holes in the bucket. The flow is similar to the Aero340 so if you ran that with the stock regulator I would think the DW300 would be fine too.

I am thinking about buying the above pump along with this hotwire from racetronix b/c it upgrades the bulkhead to handle the extra current:

Hi Nick,

First of all, let me say that I've been following your build thread and what you're doing is fantastic. I hope to emulate some of it on my 72 Camaro build (4.8 JY build, etc).

But... unfortunately popping on a 4301 is far beyond what I'm looking for on my Convertible Street/Strip, daily driver, no cage. And it's a little more complicated and expensive than "just get a MF4301 and call it done, for me at least.

My setup currently is stock rails, stock FPR, stock lines, stock tank/bucket, with a Walbro 255. It's just not cost effective. To put on the 4301 I'd have to upgrade my setup with:
a) the pump ($450)
b) the lines and connectors ($300-400)
c) a sumped fuel tank ($600+)
d) a boost referenced fuel pressure regulator ($150)
e) fuel rail kit ($250)
f) probably a few other things.

Total cost: ~ $2,000
Not saying that this wouldn't then be a bitchin fuel setup, but just not what I'm looking for to get me from my current 550rwhp to a safe 600 rwhp on my convertible.

I can get a full Lonnies double pumper setup to go with my stock system for ~$600 and still have more fuel than I need to reach 600 rwhp safely.

What I'm looking for is an even simpler drop in for under $200 to get me to my goal. Not that I'm cheap (well, thrifty), but I can't see spending $2000 on a setup when I only need to spend $200.

Please don't take offense, I know you had only good intentions and I really do appreciate the input. In fact, like I said, I may go that route on my '72 build. (Sh&#, I gotta start saving for that!)

Hmmmm.... come to think of it, I don't think my previous builder cut my bucket when he installed my Aero 340 a year ago. In fact, I'm almost certain. Could that be why my Aero 340 failed after 3 months? Could that be why my tuner says I'm "running out of fuel at the top of 3rd" (Bucket is getting empty?) If I took my bucket out (access hatch cut already, thank god) and cut the bucket, do you think that would help my current setup with the Walbro 255? Hell, if I go with a DW300 or another Aero 340, I'd have to do that anyway, right? (If I get what you're saying correct).

(I have the Walbro 255 in there right now as a replacement for the AE340 that burned out after 3-4 months. There is no venturi setup on the system, as far as I know. The bucket has not been cut open at the bottom.)

Hmmmm...

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying There are different views about how large the hole needs to be but I'm almost certain that once you eliminate the venturi you need holes to allow fuel into the bucket. I don't think that's why your aero failed though....I have read about too many other cases of failure. Seems to be hit or miss with those pumps. I haven't been able to find any failures on the DW and the import guys are taking them pretty far on E85.

Wow, yeah mine hasn't had any holes cut into it yet. I think I'm going to try that first before I buy another pump. Thanks for the info. Hope it helps, but I may end up gong with a larger pump anyway. Looking over the info on that DW300. 3 year no questions asked warranty! Impressive!
Thanks for the info and links.
