The 044 will work up to about 700hp at the flywheel, but it is an external pump. We have used them quite a bit. We ran two of them on the Super Sleeper Nova (Sucker's Bet) that was making around 1100hp.

044 can and is used internally just as often as external.

Although for compact Walbro types' there is the new Aeromotive 340lph pump which is the same size as a 255 Walbro.

It flows a little more than an 044 on paper, but it also draws more current than even an 044 does.

FWIW, we use a Bosch 044 on the engine dyno. We are testing our 427 engine right now and it is making about 680HP. We can see the 044 struggling to keep up in the higher RPMs. So 700fwhp seems about right for its limit.

044 is a very reliable pump. I got one on a car I built about 5yrs ago for a customer. It only makes about 550rw but is inuse, day in, day out as a dd and street/strip. Has never failed. Very reliable.
