Question Fuel Pump About To Die?

Went to the track tonite and on one pass the car backfired through the exhaust and died right when I crossed the traps in 4th. It fired up with no problem. On the next pass it did not backfire but there was a slight stumble around 6000 in 4th just before crossing the traps and the motor did not shut off. On the way home I got on it and as soon as I shifted to 4th it stumbled and then backfired and died again. Car was still in gear and decelerating. I tried to feather the throttle a few times and it caused it to backfire more. Put it in neutral and hit the starter and she fired right up. Could this be the fuel pump takin a dump?
Did not throw a code. Stock fuel pump. I do not have a pressure gauge so I do not know the fuel pressure. I just got back from Iraq and the car has been sitting for about 3 months, it was cranked and brought to operating temp once every two weeks. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks In Advance
Brad

Well it is not a fuel related problem. Here is the update https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagnostics-tuning/161949-p0327-code-related-problems.html

I have yet to get any replies. Educated guesses are welcome

Holy crap, I'm having the same problem. I was just about to post a question. Mine has happened twice in the upper rpms in 4th. Once at the track and once on the highway. At the top of 4th under a full load it stumbled a little and would shut off. I would put the car into 6th while rolling, and it would start right back up.

When it happened to me, I was squeezing both times. I had exacting a 1/4 tank of gas in the car both times also. When I would reach the top of 4th and the car would shut off, I would turn it back on. After turning it back on, the "check guages" light would come on and my fuel level would read very very low.

I thought this was very weird, so I would park it for a quick second, and restart it. On the restart, the fuel guage jumped back up to 1/4 and all was good. Only thing I can think, and it may sounds silly, but my car was moving so fast and pushing so hard, that it forced all of the fuel backwards (giving me the empty tank reading) and I basically ran out of fuel because it was forced away from the pump line...... I don't know though. Either that or the pump is going out. I have an inline pump on top of the stock pump.

That is my best guess....From here on out, I'm spraying with at least a 1/2 tank of gas.,..... we'll see if it happens again.

Sounds like you need a sump in that tank! Low fuel level and hard acceleration equals fuel sloshing away from the pump pickup. When mine shuts off I have to turn the key off and back on and then it fires right back up. Did you read the updated thread? I believe mine is not a fuel related problem. The ignition is shutting off. I got a p0327 code knock sensor 1 circuit low (no ses light) which leads me to believe that there is a bit of detonation and the sensor hears it and tries to pull timing but sends bad data to the PCM and endss up shutting the ignition down.

I am new to EFI so I hope I am on the right track. I tried messing with it today. I have been putting around town and not getting on it. Before I went out for some more testing I ran the codes and got no fault! Ran DTC specific for p0327 and it is still in there as 1 for 1 fault. I tried to make it do it again but now it seems to be running fine. Hopefully this bug does not come back. I will be replacing the knock sensors just for gp even if it does not. Just waiting on the rest of my parts for my H/C install and time to do it.

Thanks alot for your reply man I did not think anyone was going to speak up lol

Hahaha...no prob man thanks for the quick response also. I think I'm just gonna have to make sure I have at least a 1/2 tank in her when I squeeze.

Take care and good luck hopefully your remedy will work out....thanks again,

Mike
