Default Fuel Pump "trap door"...

saved my ars yesterday! First when you change your fuel pump, don't simply pick up a piece of 5/16 fuel line from you store of choice. I got mine from Auto Zone. It was Goodyear fuel line. Good stuff right?.. Wrong, the fuel broke this line down in no time. Went to the track after the install to see if it helped it run any better, into 3rd gear the pressure dropped to 20#. I figured it was because my fuel was below a 1/4 tank. I found out different yesterday morning. On the way to the dyno for tuning, fuel pressure went to zero! On the side of the highway, under an overpass, with just a wire stripper and a pocket knife, I got the trap door open, and pulled the pump out. The hose was soft, very soft, and one end was tore off. A friend showed up w/ a screw driver and we got it back together.

So:
-if you're debating cutting the trap door, DO IT!!!
-keep a screw driver in your car
-find a fuel line that can be submersed.

If anyone knows of such a fuel line, by brand name and part number, I'm searching.

you probably didnt buy the high pressure Fuel injection hose. Its like $5 a foot. Sorry i dont have a part # You also need to use a T bar style clamp not the worm gear style. Try Napa part #705-1226 It was a pain till i finaly found the clamp part # And the trap door save me more work than i ever want to think about Its a godsend and is a must on any car. IMHO

where did you get this high pressure hose? I just got reg fuel line form discount auto, what do you mean by worm type and T bar?

I got the hose from NAPA dont have a part#. Standard fuel line is not rated to the pressures that our fuel systems develop. Worm type clamps are the standard radiator style "worm geared" hose clamps. The "T bar" type have a nut and bolt that provide alot more clamping force than the worm gear type

Here is mine a dime works nice to open it and the carpet will be cut around it!
NOTE: My mounting location of the door is not right for all years and I don't even have a fuel pump under there so don't just follow what you see!

This is a link to a post of my rollbar install that show the window cut in the car from different angles. The door itself is not pictured, but is a piece of thin (1/16 thk)stainless steel with 4 bolt holes and sheetmetal screws. My walbro did come with fuel hose but I bought some to have extra around.

damn and I thought I was done with my fuel pump install , Good thing I did the trap door as well. Now off to get some high pressure hose.
