Default weird fuel level issue

I have a weird issue going on; my fuel gauge will only work between 1/4 and 3/4 after. Yes, I fill up the tank and the needle only goes up to 3/4. Once I start driving it around it will only go down as far as the 1/4 mark. Has a brand new fuel pump as of 4 days ago and it's been like this since the previous pump as well. Do I have to replace the entire fuel sending unit?

car is a 98 TA

Default

Put an ohm meter on the purple wire coming out of the tank. Assuming nobody messed with that section of the tune...
98 might have the traditional 0-90 ohm level sender (0 at empty, 90 at full tank) or it has the weird fbody setup of 230-40 ohm or whatever silly values GM came up with (230 at full tank, 40 at empty).

Mechanical issues that might be throwing off the gauge:
Level sender might be catching on something in the tank.
Corrosion.
Electrical short at the bulkhead connections.
