Procharged 02 Z28 - Loss of fuel pressure, problem testing
Procharged 02 Z28 - Loss of fuel pressure, problem testing Hi all, 2002 z28 forged internal 6.0 408 stroker. I just set the procharged back up on it. For a minute I was having issues with the pipes not holding under boost until I put stronger clamps. The other night, it drove great all the way down the free way, under boost it was strong no issue. Next day I wake up, drive a few blocks home, go inside for a bit. Come back out maybe 15 min later to drive off and boom at the end of the block the car just cuts off with a like "poof" sound. Jiggle some stuff under the hood and then start and drive fine, next block same thing and then I couldnt start it again. I looked at the fuel pressure gauge and it looks to be dropping faster than it should after prime. In <10 seconds it drops from 60 build up down to like 20psi. Ive read a bunch before posting and this is where I am at.
1. Bad Regulator Diaphram?? I pulled the vacuum line off the FastLab fuel regulator, no fuel in it so no leaky diaphram. Its mounted on the front of my pass side Fast fuel rail.
2. Leaking Injector?? this is where I am stuck, I pulled the rail bolts and am lifting the drivers side first. I have the injectors in the rails still but when I get in the car to prime it, I keep blowing an injector our of the rail. Trying to do this alone. HOW DO I COMPLETE THIS TEST WITHOUT THE INJECTOR POPPING OFF?? is it bad that all the fuel flows out of the rail into the injector hole when that happened?
Once I can complete #2, then Ill move on testing further if thats not the fix but I cant get that part done.
- Return line test - will pinch/block return line and see if it holds pressure. If it holds then likely the regulator
- Check valve test - if pressure bleeds with return line blocked, then a check valve in pump may be bad. I will pinch the line between the fuel pump and tank and see if pressure holds, then it would be bad. pinching keeps it from going back into the tank
- Fuel filter test - ill have to just replace, not sure how to check or test yet
- Fuel pump flex tube - ive heard you can pressure test this and see if its leaking out from one side or a clamp
- Fuel pump stopper - ive heard this can be the culprit.
