Default Fuel shut off?

I'm building a LS 408 and wondering how, if possible to have a fuel cut-off system of my engine starts leaning out to the point of engine damage. Does such a thing exist? Is it something that can be done in the tune setup?

AFR safety shut down isn't a feature on the stock ECU. Its not very common on N/A forged setups because the risk of hardware failure with mild detonation is extremely low.

It's not done that way for a very good reason. Lean detonation can damage an engine in seconds. When the engine goes lean, you wouldn't want to cut fuel. That would only make it worse. You would want to cut ignition, which would improv the situation.

And, if you could program the ecu to change fueling when it goes lean, why wouldn't you program it to add fuel instead?

I'm mainly trying to get a feel for the proper/best way to make sure something is in place to save my motor. Thanks

Using fuel cuts will not cause any harm, and is a strategy aftermarket ecu's have used for years ( and all OEM ecu's use for cuts whether rev limiters or otherwise ). Or spark cuts if you choose.

Lean trip features are available with a decent aftermarket...but OEM. No. Trying to implement such a feature with external boxes to an OEM ecu...also not ideal in any way.

For most part all you need here is a competent builder and tuner. Then the risk is almost zero.
