Default HELP!! Fuel Pump Ground Wire

I have a walbro 450 hardwired using a Bosch style 40A relay.

I have confirmed the relay is wired up properly, but I have a question about the ground wire (black) coming off the fuel pump.

Currently, the ground runs from the pump, through the stock pigtail in the tank and out, through the stock harness on top of the sending unit.. and into the car through the stock harness.

I believe, this wire is getting hot inside the car in its bundle of wires from the stock harness (2nd picture). Can I not just have the pump share a ground with the relay outside the car? This would avoid using the small stock wires.

Does anyone know where it even leads to?

I grounded it on the frame and it, so far, has elimated all of the issues.

Just be advised, most Universal hard wire kits do not mention the ground wire that exists on our fuel pump harness and runs inside the interior.

Need to be careful because these pumps draw up to 30 amps. The stock terminals and wiring are not rated for that many amps. I'm doing a twin Walbro set up and using a racetronics terminal assembly that is rated up to 30 amps and is plug and play with the stock pump housing.
