Default Car died, no pressure at rail.

So, went on a decently long drive today maybe 150 miles altogether. Decided to get off the interstate and grab food. Stopped at a red light and My 99 Z28 stock engine with a racetronix in tank pump died. Wouldn't start back up. Pulled the cap off the fuel line e and no pressure at all, nothing came out. Called for a tow truck and came home. Tow truck driver gets there and calls me, says it fired right up and drove onto his truck on its own. Got it to my house and it fired up and ran fine. I think the pump overheated and I should replace it. Anyone ha e any other ideas and what's a good pump to buy?

Are you running the racetronix harness also? If not you may be overloading the factory fuel pump relay. As for fuel pumps either a Walbro or an Aeromotive.

Yes, I bought the whole kit. I've never had this problem before. The fuel pump has been in the car for almost 5 years. Im going to check all the connections and make sure everything is tight. It was just odd the way it now starts and runs fine.

can I continue using the racetronix wiring harness with the aeromotive pump?

1st, check for power to the pump, then you can hotwire pump to check it. Either one of those will tell you where the fault is.
If you made it 5 yrs on a racetronix, I think you set a record.
All 3 of mine failed within 150 miles. That was using their "Hotwire kit". First 2 they warranted, 3rd one left my wife stranded so I ate my losses and trashed it. Put in a Lingenfelter and haven't had an issue in 9 years.

Has the quality declined? I'm on 15 years on my 255 setup and it's about maxed out for the power I'm at now but keeps kicking.

The more likely reasons would be

1. Pump just failed. They do that and sometimes with no warning. Most common causes of pump failure?
Low voltage/current to the pump. This can be a mixture of low output from failing/old alternator, bad battery, or an old square bulkhead connector that has melted/burned. That is why racetronix updated their hotwire kits for the 99-02 fbodys and other modules with that style bulkhead as they were very failure prone.

2. Not servicing the fuel filter at all/frequently enough. Ideally it should be changed on regular intervals but most suggestions are every 30k miles but with fuel quality and composition so different now, every 15k would be a much better option. And only with high quality filter brands.

Which brings us to

3. Ethanol fuels. They are considerably different than the std pump gas of the past and can cause damage to any component not made for it or at least resistant to it.

Going with an aeromotive pump would really be a step back there especially since they have 0 provision for the venturi system.
Go back with a racetronix but also check your alternator at a local parta store/shop and make 100% sure you are using a new style hotwire kit as well.

Hate to break it to you but wether you choose to go submersible or external with your fuel delivery Aeromotive has some of the best fuel systems on the market.

Specifically for the fbody there is quite a gap there between what racetronix offers and what aeromotive does.
And then also what we offer as well. We only use racetronix pumps for all of our modules and nearly all of the customer installs we do. There is good reason for that.

Its 2022, you shouldn't be drilling holes in modules anyway. Or splicing generic harnesses etc.

I have the Racetronix harness and had purchased a drop in pump for my 01 from WS6store. This was many years ago and I know there's better pumps used now but the pump couild not support the power of the LSX427. I gues the 600 hp rating was for engine and not rear wheel but I'm still running the harness but went with the Squash Performance twin pump assembly which has Walbro 450's. Only one is connected and the assembly on a stick is working just fine without a fuel bucket..

5 years but no mention of miles. How many miles in 5 years???

Do you run tank to below 1/4 full?? pumps are cooled by gas in tank.

Could be vapor lock - started the Tow Truck Driver arrived Hmm how much time passed.

Battery voltage??

Sounds like a fun vehicle. But definitely not a need for twins on an na 427. Our drop in modules are less hassle and still use the venturi so it always keeps the pump fed and cool. And we have multiple options for power all using racetronix pumps.

Many ways to do a system but the easiest way is normally the most reliable and easiest to troubleshoot in case of issues and also much less load on the electrical system.
