Default Octane

Damn guy at Sunoco put the wrong grade gas in my car (I live in NJ),
just wondering if there are any negative affects for running 89 for a week (car got killer MPG, I got an extra 40-50miles on the tank) I don't plan to ever get 89 again, just wondering if anything could of gone wrong?

BTW I looked while he was pushing the button but he blocked my view with his back, so I looked at the buttons when he moved but couldn't tell which he pushed because they were dirty so I just assumed it was 93, but when I checked the receipt later that day (car felt sluggish) it said regular gas as opposed to super. BTW the car doesn't feel sluggish anymore, just the 1st day or 2

How is it possable any mpg gain on regular unleaded, I had thought it could only be on super unleaded and not unleaded if any mpg gain.

Yeah the only way I could see you getting better gas mileage is if you ran a higher Octane because your motor would be running smoother. All the octane rating is. Is a rating at which the gas will ignite under pressure. Hence higher octane more pressure it takes to ignite it. That's why LS1's run better on 93 because of there compression ratio.

I don't know, but I keep track of every single gas fill-up and I picked up an extra 40-50mpg....I'll see the exact # when I fill up.

So I guess there are no ill affects

No, I think there was a thread on here a while back in which a lot of people said they always ran regular.

Probably got better gas mileage from babying it from being worried of the low octane gas...

If the octane rating falls to low, the computer shifts over to the low-octane table and runs fine, just with less power.

It's safe to run it, but I'm not sure about high rpms/WOT. It's probably only safe at lower rpms, but I'm no expert...

One kid who used to run only 87 in his f-body complained about "valve train noise" at high-rpm

The lowest I would put in on a stock LS1 engine would be 89....
