if our pumps burned out and didn't work i could see how they are saying that stuff in the tank got past both filters and dammaged the pump but i don't see how the check valve not holding pressure which has happened since the 1st time i turned on the car could have been caused by something in the tank which was clean anyways

Wrong!

The filter sock is only good down to apx. 30 microns it is not a fix-all.
Certain types of contamination such as rust will make it by the filter sock.
These small particles wear the pump gears and armature contacts causing reduced performance and eventual failure. Ferrous metals stick to the motor magnets etc.

Racetronix, question for you.

my car wont hold pressure in the rail but sometimes will fire ok, others the pump has to be primed for about 5 sec. before i fire up. is there any chance that the check valve in there could be having the ball hang up or something?
