110 octane at the pump

110 octane at the pump So I went down to the local drag strip in my area to see when it opens. I stopped to get gas, and when talking to the lady she said that a lot of the racers get the race gas out back. So I had to ask some more questions, and found out that they have 110 octane AT THE PUMP! this is going to be great for the r6, and maybe some gallons in the ws6, as long as its mixed becasue it leaded.
Unless you are running higher compression or have a supercharged engine you are wasting your money putting in 110. With it being leaded you will most likely foul your O2 sensors ($$$).
If you want to boost your octane toss in some Xylene (117 octane) with your unleaded fuel and 1 ounce of Marvel Mystery Oil per gallon of Xylene. You can get it at your local paint store. 5 gallons is about $40.
7 gallons of 92 octane
3 gallons of Xylene (117)
3 ounces of MMO
yields 100 octane
Adding more than 30% Xylene will make the car have difficult cold starting characteristics. The Torco additive is basically Xylene and a few other chemicals. However it only raises your octane level from 92 to 92.3 for example. Waste of money IMO. You need some volume to really increase the octane your fuel has.

If your not getting detonation, you will get no benefit from the 110. I was using Sunoco 100 octane unleaded(lots of sunoco stations carry it in fl) and my car slowed down The more I ran it the worse it got. My 02s got real lazy, it would idle rough at startup, and it loss several mph at the track? I dont know why, but it definately did!

why the **** do people with new cars want old leaded gas...do they like spending hundreds of dollars on 02 senors and like going slower? You have a 99% stock TA....the LAST thing you need is race gas....stick with 93 octane. if you get to the point of needing race gas, get some Torco unleaded additive (actualy race gas concentrate).
Stay as far away from the leaded fuel as possible. 
I usually run 109 unleaded but one day at the track I misjudged the amount of fuel that I had and ended up putting about 3 gallons of 110 in the car. I didn't think just 3 gallons in the scheme of things would hurt.
I only got about 10 miles from the track on my way home before the car developed a little part throttle stumble. By the time I got home the car would buck and stumble all over the place. I managed to foul the oxygen sensors in a matter of 20 miles.

High octain is only needed if the car has high compression. A cam does not increace the compression. it can hurt the performance of your car, the high octain burns slower th reduce detonation. in a stock compression f-body LS1 you dont need real high octain.
