Default what octane do you use?

first day with the LS1 and for my first time filling up I'm wondering what octane to use...

in the stang I could use 87-89..

I'm assuming though with the 10:1 compression I'd have to use 93 though....

Yeah you'll need to run premium in the LS1, if you don't it will revert to the low octane tables and feel like driving a small minivan

I can't find anyone with better than 91 octane anywhere near me so I've been running 91. (Screw you and your crappy gasoline, Colorado)

I wish I had the option of putting higher than 91 octane here in california. I have never seen anything higher than 91, but have heard rumors of some 76 stations with 92.

make sure that your PCM is tuned for 91 octane. there are several mail order tuners who will turn it around in 1 day as well as give you 20 more rwhp over the stock tune. if you tune for 91 you can buy gas anywhere without performance problems.

many mail order tuners have good press on this forum.

I'm running 91 with a 10.6:1 cr without problem. I've tried 94 but felt no difference in performance. My PCM was tuned for 91.

I live in Albuquerque and the best we have is 91 as well. As the altitude increases, octane decreases. Running 91 octane in Denver is the same as 93 in Houston.

The best we have around Omaha is 91, so I use it. I've tried mid-grade and regular. Both make the car rough and troublesome. Surging, hesitation, and shuddering are common. I quit using them.

Still, it's cheaper than driving my truck...
