Apparently you define fuel econoy a different way than I do But yes, losing MPG is exactly what I meant

It depends on how much you pay per gallon..

Example
If you get 30% less MPG but it costs 30% less it is the same fuel economy.

Now look at what it would cost to run 106 octane and do the cost per mile analysis and get back to me...

Must be a stock HP car or near there.. Or else you would have been changing the pump, regulator and fuel lines anyway..

I run both 85% and 98% ethanol.... No problems.. I replaced all those before mentioned parts with ones that can handle it... Funny how the right parts are'nt harmed the slightest bit by it..

1. Braided stainless fuel lines.. Feed and return.
2. External pump and inline filter... Racing pump MFGs have alky models with viton parts in them. Sump the tank or install a AN bulkhead fitting at the bottom rear.
3. Adjustable FPR same spec as pump.. Aeromotive, SX, paxton etc...
4. Aftermarket stainless or anodized aluminum fuel rail.. or have oe jet hot coated inside and out.. inside most important..
5. Injectors from an FFV the size you need about 1.3-1.6x gas size or bosch 160lb......

There are many FFV's out there now and fuel injectors that can handle it are becoming more and more available.. If anyone is serious let me know about what most ppl at your power level run for injectors on gas and I will find some that will be the right size and type for E85

My buddy has a 94 cutlass and went in for service and the computer said that it had 40%ethonal in the gas. The gas he pumped said 10% ethonal added at the pump. They are adding more than what they say. The reason they put ethonal in lower rated gas is to counter act the amount of water in it. He runs straight E85 in the cutlass now and his 98 PT cruiser. Since those vehicles are able to run it, do you think it would be safe to run E85 in an LS1 (99trans am)

nope, you need to reread the post.

E85 is corrosive to some types of plastics and aluminum.

Say you mix 25% of e85 with ordinary gas like i am doing! My car runs perfect, but you say i´m destroying it? P
People here in sweden have ran thousends of miles in their cars without any conversions and they dont have any problems.....

HAs anyone really tried to run a mix blending of e85 and fucked up their car because of it?

A friends of mine has ran his z28 with a mix of 50% of e85 for a long time and his car runs great!!

I have tried fore some time now to but with 25% mix, and all i can say is it runs like always and fuel mpg is the same. Ran the car at the track and the mph went upp a bit from the last time...if it is the etanol i dont know, probably the weather....

We covered a lot of this today in a college course I'm attending. It's definately interesting. What about PCM tuning though? How much programming is necessary? I remember in LS1edit and HP Tuners where you can change stoich, but what about fuel delivery for the injectors. What else??

You would probably need a different type of 02 sensor also because these are design to read 14.68 and nothing else. I dont know though just guessing

You need to change the parts he lists.

Thats it.

That is what makes a FFV, just those parts changes.

In fact it looks like he went farther changing the filler neck and all that.

I'm considering it for the C5 because I can get the stuff cheap.

For FI cars, especially if they are not FI right now and you plan on it being FI its for sure the way to go.

Your already spending cash, get the software so you can change from ethanol to regular gas if your travelling.

If your running E98, you making it yourself?

Well, not exactly. A True FFV has some kind of octane sensor in the tank and automatically adjusts the stoic ratio for the ratio of gas and ethanol. But to convert to running E85 or strait alcohol, the stuff above is all that is needed.
