Default Car wont accept gas??????

i went to fill my car up last night, it was at about a quarter tank.well when i started to fill it the gas just shot back out. so i drove around for 10-15 minutes noticed that my check gauges light went on and that my gas gauge was at E went back to try again and it worked fine... just wanted to see if anyone has a clue of what it could be.. everything that has to do with the fuel system is stock and also for some reason i dont get pressure relief when i un screw the gas cap.... any ideas would be great thanks

Is it throwing any codes? Here's a link to a similar problem:

Hope this helps.

no offence or anything, but that is probably whats causing your problems, and if it isnt it will cause some in the future. Aftermarket mafs really dont mesh well with these cars for some reason. I would put it back to stock.

*edit*

just wanted to clear something up, I'm not saying the maf is causing your gas tank to stop accepting gas, but the bad milage probably is from the maf. what brand is it?

+1 on that...none of the mafs ever worked well for me except for stock or slp. A ported stock maf will cause bad gas mileage if the computer is trying to compensate and dumping in more fuel at cruising rpms.

Is the SES light on, if so is it related to the EVAP system. Sonds like you are having a problem with the EVAP system and it is not releaving pressuer in the tank. There for the filler neck check valve is seated in the closed position. Did you disturbe any of the fuel lines on the engine, or connectors going to the small unit just above #1 fuel injector. This will cause then engine to run bad-rich as well.

im not throwing any codes and the maf is slp... some guys were telling me that there is a rubber hose that connects the filler neck to the tank could have collapsed. i havent had the problem again yet but when i fill up i still dont get a pressure relief when i open up the gas cap....

I had this happen once (and never since) like 3 years ago. It was weird. Completely stock 99 Z28.

I thought maybe something got plugged in the evap or something wrong with the gas station's pump (had one of those stupid plastic fume colector things). That's a totally wild and not very well educated guess though. Maybe we both have brat kid neighbors and now both have a golf ball in the tank ;-).

I was able to fill up shortly after that though, so never bothered looking any further at it. Didn't seem to have anything to do with gas mileage for me anyway.

For me anyway, once in 60K miles (maybe 40 K ago now), ehh, not going to worry about it.

If you do get a "real" answer, I'd be interested.

I guess from what i understand im not supposed to be getting pressure relief from the gas tank since it is to cold for the gas to vaporize.. so i guess since there is no light there is no problem.. atleast to really worry about.. thanks for all the info you guys provided...

Try not letting the pump make a seal against your inlet neck when you fill up (put a finger on one side between the inlet neck and the spring part on the side of the pump nozzle) and let the air coming out of your gas tank being displaced by the gasoline vent out to the atmosphere. (Hard to explain what Im talking about, but pull the spring part of the nozzle back on one side).

Sometimes that will let it fill up, I've had that happen lots of times.

I guess maybe those vapor thingies get full ?
