Those familiar with Holley Projection come in
MY dad has a 78 CJ5 Jeep that he restored from the ground up. he ditched the I-6 and swaped in a 283 ci SBC and TH350 tranny. its fed by a Holley Projection 2D which is a 2 barel 650CFM TB. It has a tunable computer that we both have played with and adjusted and it just dosnt seem to run right. Off idle when given anything over part throttle it sputters and some times dies. The thing just has no power at all fo a jeep with a V8! Falls flat on its face when punched. The system has an inline fuel pump with an adjustable regulator set at 15psi inside the TB. So far we have ruled out the TPS and timing as it had been set everywhere from 4 to 12 degrees. So now we are at a loss. We havnt messed with the fuel regulator yet as far as we know its still at the factory setting of 15 psi.
1. Are we missing something?
2. Is 650 CFM too big for a 283?
3. is the Projection system just a peice of crap?
4. HELP!
Thanks for reading and thanks for anyhelp!

Probably. I've tuned one of these systems a long time ago, but it was multi-port. Have you tried tuning it by adjusting the VE table/timing table/etc and monitoring air/fuel with a wideband?
2. Is 650 CFM too big for a 283?
No.
3. is the Projection system just a peice of crap?
Yes, but it should work ok for a setup like that.
4. HELP!
Not sure what else to say, except try giving Holley a call.

I put one of those on a '69 Cutlass when I was 16. As I recall, I had a lot of problems before I rewired every ground in the system. After that it worked ok, but the potentiometer adjustments for idle, midrange, and high rpm aren't exactly an optimum tuning solution.
-edit- I almost forgot, go to www.chevytalk.com for holley fi problems. A guy that works for holley is a moderator.
