I could be wrong but I had looked into ethanol for a political sci course and had come across some info about it.

When ethanol ends up in the environment it is is pretty bad for the plants as far as acid rain is concerned. So if many people made the switch it might make a worse impact on the ecosystem.

Also cars get worse mileage using ethanol when compared to regular unleaded.

But it would allow more compression and burns clean compared to petroleum based fuels. E85 sells for around $1.10 a gallon in the midwest.

Wow. If E85 were that cheap here I wouldn't mind the 12 mpg the Yukon gets burning this stuff. Here it is only 5-10cents cheaper per gallon than the 87 octane.

E85 actually burns cleaner, you just have to live with the poor gas mileage.

I live in Indiana, few stations have E-85, i mixed about 5 gallons of it with the rest premium gas and boy my car really liked it... so much i dropped about 5 mpg But it ran better. It was about 20 cents cheaper per gallon than regular 87 octane.
