Default Fuel pump choices for a 1998 FBody...?

First, what is the difference between the 98 and 99+ fuel tanks/lines/electrical hookups?

What about the Hot Wire kits I've seen? Is the stock wiring that crappy that it cant be trusted with a higher volume pump?

What is the difference between the Racetronix 98-99 kit and the 00+ kit?

My future goal is around 475rwhp, so what type of fuel system would be recommended?

Thanks!

Whats up man. I have a 98 Ls1 FBody with an M6. I went with the walbro 255lph intank install. It runs great. I temporarily have around 300 rwhp but the pump will handle around 600 so im set. You really will notice the difference when you add a mod and additional fuel is required. I highly recommend the Walbro and if you search the rest of threads on the subject, you'll see that its pretty much the top pick. I have some real informative websites on installs to. I did mine myself. I took about 4 hours with the access panel method of installation and now I have a nice stainless door to access the pump from now on. Let me know if you have any questions.

The 98 is very easy to install the pump into the sender. Save yourself the money and just buy the pump and install kit $129.99. Unlike the difficult 99-02 plastic senders that are a pain in the ...

the hot wire kit is a waste of time, basically it coverts the voltage getting to the pump, for instance the pump runs at 12 volts. Well the hot wire kit makes the pump run at 14 volts, sometimes, not real realiable. Of course it depends on your setup, but for instance you want to be around 470, so either big cubes, or fi, might be in your future or no2. At the very least you will have a ton of injector and fuel demand. I have seen a FI car with the hot wire kit, 255, and 60lb mortons, running at 60 psi of fuel pressure drop to under 50 at boost, for instance the car made 470 hp on the dyno, got the car more fuel via a boost a pump, made 570. Every person I have talked to recommends this. fuel is your cars friend, if you need to go hot wire type fueling, get a boost a pump. you can tune the pump and the way up to 18 volts. more volts = more fuel. this would be help you make your mark. Also plan on needing some injectors, svo40's should be fine, but you will definatley be pushing the stockers beyond thier duty cycle.

a hotwire kit doesn not "convert" anything..

the stock gauge wire is very small for the current draw of the fuel pump. this causes the voltage to drop.. so if the SYSTEM voltage was operating correctly at its normal voltage of 13.5, you can see as little as 11.5 or less with the walbro running.

all the hotwire kit is, is a thicker wire, and a relay to click it on. very simple but highly effective.

The shop tuning it will most likely also do FMS 42# injectors and pull back a lot of the injector on time to lean it back out. I want to be sure that the fuel system will be up to the task when it comes time to add some more power.

I think the Racetronix and the 42s are a good setup that will handle the power I will want to make.
