my car is actually a street car also. but the pump assy hides behind the rear bumper. i dont think it can hide like that on yours. i am also running two jl amps and 2- 12's. 18' simmons, but i have GC coilovers. i have a plate inside the trunk to make it stronger. oh but you have your speakers in the trunk huh?

i made this last year:

so i have total trunk space available. i was almost tempted to mount the whole pump assy in the trunk.

you cant see the pump assy:

To honest the twin walbros in the 98 tank is a much better street setup IMO. You get to have the evap and you can just run one pump most of the time. I had zero issues with it but if I do add more power in the fall I didnt want to be doing this when the weather was nice - now its done..

FWIW the 'heavy' 98 tank only weighed 3lbs more (without the sender/pumps) then the aluminum tank. Poeple claim the 98 steel tank is 20lbs heavier then the 99+ plastic tank but that cant be true at all..

kp,
How did you do the trap door thing in the hatch area and the vent on top? Was it difficult? I think I am going to do that also.

The trap door was already there on this car when I bought it but I used a nibbler to do my old 2000. You dont need to have much of a hole just to do the vent. On the newer nasty tanks I dont know if you can get your hand in the sender hole to put the rollover valve in the tank. My tank is an older one with the big hole for the stock 99+ sender.

I had a Weldon 2025 and it bugged the crap out of me because it was the loudest thing on the car. I went to dual Bosch 420L pumps.

I was thinking about that, but I almost have to try. I can't stand the current situation of the vent on this tank.

It works OK for me but I mostly race the car, I have no problems filling it at all. it has leaked a little out on a low 1.3 60' launch when it was full but other then that nothing ever comes out of it and the car is running just fine.

i got my car running last night and mounted the pump on the panhard bar with out seeing your pics.... kinda funny...

but i am kinda unhappy about the whole vent thing.... it takes forever for it to get gas and it has no baffles and when i hooked up the stock replacement fuel sender it didnt read any fuel with 5 gallons in it....

but i was just really glad to hear it idle... sounds mean as ****!

Kind of a logical place to put the pump, if you still have the upper panhard on anyway

Vent on mine works fine, I can go to a gas station and fill it up like a normal car. Cant really see why the vent on the side would be any different unless its just too small.

I made my own 0-90 ohm sender setup and reprogrammed the PCM to work with it, 2 gallons is on E and full is like 3/4 so its usable. Glad to hear its running, mine is in 1000 pieces again..

The reason the side one is a pain is that it is lower than the fill neck. So if you fill up, gas starts leaking out the vent and you car looks like it's taking a **** all over the concrete. Not to mention that it no longer functions as a vent at this point. That's the problem

As far as the sending unit goes, unless you replace it with a different kind which I wouldn't even know where to start) you are just going to have to live with it. All of us have the 5 gallon fill up problem. As far as the vent thing goes there are a couple of things you can do. There is one guy on here that uses a catch can. But if you are like me, that won't be good enough. I will probably drop my tank and put a vent valve on top like kp did. It's a lot more work but it is the best fix I can think of. Good luck on whatever you choose

My vent is lower then the highest point, it has never spit any fuel even with a 1.29x 60 foots nearly full. I can see if you fill it it up to the top and then take some hard rights how it can come out though. Mine will stop a gas pump when it gets full (or close to it) but I dont street drive my car a lot and usually keep the tank around 2/3 full. The vent I have is working for what I am doing with the car, cant say for sure if it would be any better then what you have though.

I understand. I just need it to be higher than the fill neck, it doesn't have to be the highest point on the tank. The fill neck is what determines a "full tank" technically. I just want to be able to fill up and have the pump stop me and not watch my gas gauge cautiously every time.
