fuel pump dead?

fuel pump dead? Is it possible for a fuel pump to be completlely dead where you can not even hear it turn on? The car wont crank and its a factory pump. It turns over but there is no pressure in the rails at all and like i said u can not hear the pump turn on either. Also replaced the the relay and checked the fuses and those are good. Anything else it could be?
Im not 100% sure on this, but on most gm cars you can test the pump by putting 12 volts to a pin on the obd connector under the dash. If so, put 12 volts to that pin, then open the gas cap and put your ear over it and if you cant hear the pump run, then its probably bad. If you got a repair manual, it probably has steps to help you troubleshoot.
