Default Anyone just replacing the pump?

I was wondering if anyone was just replacing the fuel pump without the harness upgrade? I see there are alot of companies with wiring upgrades but would prefer to just swap to a 255lph pump and be done with it. I am not spraying nitrious or doing any FI stuff. Looking at around mid 500's hp and tq at the wheel when all done. Also, if I decide to go with the wiring harness upgrade, can this still be done without dropping the tank? I plan on cutting the access hole and making a sheetmetal cover. Thanks for the help guys.

You can replace just the pump and it will support your HP goal but adding the wire harness gives the pump better voltage for added hp handling and life. I rec. droping the tank to get any dirt and junk out of the tank and so you do not drop any more in in the process. That is the bigger issue with pump failures.

Walbro replacment pump $129.99
Wire harness $69.99

i think dropping the tank is very, very easy.in 10-15 minutes it can be on the ground .just have it very close to empty.don't be a dumbass like me and drop it with over half a tank in it and have to muscle it back up.

I have always worked for foreign car dealerships and all those cars came with an access panel. I do not see why cutting your own like GM and the other 2 American companies should be doing is such a bad thing. I will fab up a very nice cover plate when I am finished. I understand the dirt issue, this can be avoided by taking your time and making sure you clean the area well before taking things apart. I have no problems cutting an access hole for the fuel pump. I am very meticulous with my work and it will be done proffessionally and very clean. When I am finished it will look like the factory had done it this way.

I agree, I just finished my access panel on my 98 TA. If you take your time and do nice straight cuts and clean up the edges/radius the corners ect. then it looks factory. It also allows you to remove the pumps/sending unit in approx. ten minutes. I still have to get a cover fabbed, will make some nice factory looking bead rolls for added strength and paint it to match.

Slow trap....10-15 minuts huh, are you an insurance adjuster by trade?

i'm going to go ahead and warn you, if you don't replace everything... that will take a whole more of 30minutes installing the durn thing you are going to be regretting it later. I did it like that.. just installed the pump and ran the factory harness.. the pump put such a demand compared to the stock pump (maybe not that much more really but...) the factory power wire from the rear plug in harness about all got melted together cuz of bad contact on that wire. SO... replace that sucker and take the time to do it right.
