Do you guys mean you have to drop it IF YOU DON'T WANNA DO IT WITH THE TRAP DOOR? Or are you saying you just have to drop it anyway, period? Because I've always been told you can just do the trap door, fix it back correctly, and nobody can tell because it's hidden under the carpet. Not to mention if you ever sold the car, the new owner would APPRECIATE the door if he ever has to change the pump.
I just need to know because I'm doing mine very soon.

Im doing my racetronix intank this weekend. I went back and forth with the whole trap door or dropping the tank. I decided to do the trap door. Why do we mod our cars? To make them better than stock, right? GM should have had an access door to begin with. Alot of cars i work on in the automotive field have access door from the factory. As long as you take your time and do it right i would consider it a mod. I did to my old 3rd gen, was not to bad. That way if you need to diag something later the fuel system is easliy accesable. Sorry for the long post

hey guys...i decided to drop the tank....with a buddy it was easy...took some muscle, and going slow..making sure everything was disconnected...and i also had my GF hold the fuel fill tube and feed it in and out...it came right out...i had about 1/2 tank so coming out was a heavy bastard, i just pressed it.....almost killed me haha...
i siphoned about 5 gallons out...and putting it back in was a P-O-C! I installed the racetronix pump and look forwward to many happy miles!
thanks for all the input!

i've replace my fuel pump two times the first time i dropped my tank, it was almost empty plus i had to removed my cat-back exhaust, heat shields for the gas tank. The second time i just cut out hole to avoid all that stuff. I took me about 1hr and a half to remove the tank and like 10-15 mins with the trap door. It's your call on what you think it's best.
