Default Fuel sender failing?

Autotap said I had 7.5gal and 45.5% full in my fuel tank (15.5G). Put in nearly 12 gallons. Fuel gage tends to wiggle all over the place when I start the engine. I think I also have a gremlin riding in the back of my car..he likes to add 1/4 tank of gas in the 6 miles between home and work <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

So, how hard is this to repair? Is it something that the dealership should do (73K miles)? I can get my parts at cost locally.

TIA...

dealership can do it, but watch out if you have aftermarket exhaust they may screw that up.

since a tap is reading wrong too im going to stick with it being the sending unit and not the gauges.

Not an aftermarket cat-back, but I have the Grot y-pipe welded to the cat-back. I know they'd be irriated at it being welded.

Guess we'll look at the Helms manual and see how much we can do ourselves.

I found a guy who has a slightly used Walboro pump he offered me for $40. Should I put that in while we're in there? Are they just as reliable as stock? Pros/Cons?
