Walbro Installed with Access panel for plastic tanks - PICS
Thanks again to Chris99WS6PWTMET for coming over and helping me get my Walbro Intank Fuelpump installed. We both discovered that you can infact cut an access panel on the 99+ Plastic Tanks even with the tank in the car. It appears to have plenty of clearance to use a dremel. I'm including pics to help others with the location. Although we dropped my tank and I made the cut you can see in the pics there's room.
Oh and BTW Chris, of all the pics we took. I don't think either of us took a picture of the beautiful work you did mounting the walbro in the Module. haha.. Dam!..

Hey guys thanks for posting the pics on 99+ install. I was wanting to make an access panel myself but was a bit leary as no one had really posted about the 99+ install. Looks like there is plenty of room in there, Great pics!

This couldn't have come at a better time. That Aeromotive inline is way too noisy for my taste and I was getting ready to drop the tank. Where's the best place to order the pump (to get all the right parts)and will a single support my ATI tuner kit? Is the module mounting straight forward?

Mike,
I ordered my kit from RamChargers. They list a price of $129 or something but it was only $119.00 and it comes with everything you need.
As far as the Module. I watched Chris do mine and can list a few things I saw that he did.. maybe Chris will post the rest.
1. Ditch the stock Accordian Supply Hose and use the rubber fuel line supplied with the kit.
2. reuse the stock rubber Pump holder but cut a hole in the bottom of it so that you can slide the Walbro thru it a bit. This part helps you obtain a custom depth of the walbro pump. Otherwise the Pickup will stop short of poking thru the Bucket. You'll also want to use something to stuff along side the Walbro in the Rubber Holder since it's ID is much larger than the walbro. Chris filet a piece of hose and wrapped it around the outer diameter of the Walbro and slide it down into the Rubber holder. Once the Depth of the pump was set he used a Stainless Steel hose Clamp to lock it in place.
3. Cut Two 1inch Holes or just a hair bigger on the bottom of the bucket.. You'll see in the pics I show those 2 holes. I think we used 1 1/8th or something. The Walbro Pickup will be poking thru one of these holes and you'll attach your new SOCK to the pump. This puts the Pump/Sock at the lowest point in the tank!
Hope that helps. Sorry we didn't take pics of this part. we got excited in the home stretch and forgot!.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: Walbro Installed with Access panel for plastic tanks - PICS
ttt... Chris, any more pointers for a first timer?
I cut the access yesterday, piece of cake and plenty of room. I will order the pump this week and be in Florida for two weeks on a job then back to VA to swap the pumps. I plan to remove my Aeromotive and fuel pump controller (too loud) and run just the Walbro with a ATI Stage II kit on a stock TA with headers. Should be enough?
You guys have been a great help, thanks!

Nope, Brian pretty much covered it all. I wish we'd remembered to snap more shots as we went. Just remember to have a Dremel tool with some cutting wheels and it'll be fine.

I don't get what the problem is that Racetronix can't make us a bolt-in piece.

So let me confirm... the only reason for cutting the hole in your trunk is to gain quick access to the pump next time? What do you do about the big hole in your trunk after you've changed the pump?

Re: Walbro Installed with Access panel for plastic tanks - PICS
I don't understand why you guys are having to drop your tanks. I thought the whole purpose of cutting the access panel was so you wouldn't have to drop the tank, you could just pull the FP assembly out from there. Correct me if I'm wrong though.
