OK to run car w/broken EVAP?

When I was doing heads/cam I forgot to disconnect the EVAP canister from the intake, and it kinda broke

Is it ok to drive around w/this thing just spraying the vapor into the engine compartment? (may not be emissions friendly, but I'm more concerned about the car being injured)

Mine's been broke since I did my heads/cam install back in June of 2000

I guess I'm just too lazy to go pick up the $16.00 valve ... No problems to report...
