Default Installed my fuel pump (trap door): DO NOT buy RACETRONIX's fuel pump kits...

Unless you want to buy the best d@mn fuel pump kit out there !!!

I know it has been posted a bunch so I figured I'd mix it up a little... It is SO TRUE THOUGH!

HANDS DOWN THEIR KIT IS THE BEST AND MOST THOROUGH INSTALL KIT OF ANY PRODUCT THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!

These guys really took their time putting these kits together, getting everything you would need and making extremely detailed instructions.

I just installed their pump on my 1998 Z and will do the harness tommorrow (it is 5:00am after all)... I went the trap door method but the actual time required to hook the pump up was under 15 minutes... Seriously, they thought of everything .

I know people like pics but the only pic I have is of the plate I made to install over the whole I cut. It is metal that I put vinyl stickers on, sprayed the whole thing black, removed the stickers and then clear coated it:

Not the best pic but you get the idea...

Anyways, I HIGHLY recommend their kits (the pump housing looks so friggin cool it's a shame no one will see it) and their directions are second to known

Thats a good looking fuel door... I bet you could make those super cheap and sell them. I know Ide be interested. Not that I couldnt make it...but its just more convient.

Thats one thing that I never liked about the trap door method. was coming up with a good cover for it. Someone should come up with a kit to make the door. Hinges, or pins, or some neat way to install it, seal it, and make it open and close nicely.

I was thinkin about going with that racetronix kit. The price seems great for the pump and that nice *** wiring harness. I just dont know if I NEED it or not. My fuel pressure seems alittle lower than it should be, but Im thinking it might just be the wiring. So I might just do the wiring upgrade for now.

Make sure you post pics of the door installed and finished off!

Your door looks nice. Here is what I did to mine. I do not mean to highjack this thread.

I agree Racetronics has a very nice kit.

Here's where I lined it with 3M tape:

Here's what it will look like installed (not installed yet, having some pressure issues):

I actually did have one problem on this install... My pressure was lower than it should be and dropped to 20psi at WOT...

I fixed it... It was the hose. It wasn't off but I saw fuel dripping from there (once I had the pump back out). Took it off and blew into it to check for leaks (thought maybe I nicked it putting it in) and there were none.

When I took it off I noticed I could spin the clamp with my fingers, in other words it wasn't tight.

Step 25 in the Racetronix directs said not to overtighten or I could strip the gears. Dumb me, wasn't thinking, put it to snug with the screwdriver and moved on...

Apparently snug with the screwdriver dosn't hold up to 60psi

SO, I tightened the crap out of it with a 1/4" nut driver, inspected everything else, put it back in and fired it up:

58psi

Much better than the 40psi it had...

TWO LESSONS TO LEARN HERE:

1) A clamp is easier to replace (if you do strip it) than pulling your pump back out because it wasn't tight enough the first time...

Good to hear you found the problem. Now it's time to put that bump stick in.

well i got ther lets say 85% of my install to night (i droped the tank) go ever thing back in and i turned the key to hear it...nothing happened. now the wire that runs up to the altinotoer or batter was not hooked up. the other end was. would that cause it to not have power.

in the manuel it says "our pump get power from the alt. or battery" so would that have caused it?

Don't mean to hijack, but I'm looking at Thunder Racing's listings for the Racetronix pump kits and don't know which one I should pick up?http://thunderracing.com/catalog/?ac...vid=4&pcid=166
I'm thinking I should pick up the more expensive one and save myself the trouble of having to do it all over again when my mods call for it...

Also, can you do the trap door on an LT1 car? Thanks.

Hey Demonbird!

Sorry, I just saw this thread, the fuel access door looks cool!
You should mass market them, it's such a PIA to drop the tank.

Glad you like the pump kit, it's the same one we sent PSJ for the Pinks project

Ed
