Default Can't turn the ring

How do you turn the locking ring to release the fuel pump canister. I've tried impact and it will not budge. I didn't want to bend the tabs up. Any special tool or technique?

Hammer and screwdriver. Dont be scared of it. Just be careful not to put a hole in the tank.

Yeah, especially the plastic tank! I worked on it for awhile with no luck and I wasn't shy! There must be wrench for this ring, I'll have to check. Thanx for the response!

Not sure about a special tool. I've done 4 99+ tanks using a hammer and screwdriver. You have to whack it pretty good, but it'll move.

I wonder if it is because the tank is installed and I'm having to hit it at a steep angle instead of normal to the direction of movement? In any event I've whacked it pretty good and it will not move past the tab indents. There is such a thing as "fuel pump sender locking ring removal tool" mentioned in most internet directions for changing an in-tank fuel pumps. I'll beat it some more and then call the dealer Monday if I don't get it off. I hate to bend the tabs up because I know they'll need to be beat back down and the mounting surface (plastic) is flexible.
