A pressure drop during a free rev would indicate a restriction in the regulator or return line. This is because hardly any fuel is being used when there is no load. The pump is essentially outflowing the return system elevating the idle pressure. Once some fuel is being consumed, the pressure will start to drop.

Lonnie...would what you just said above also be true for a stock-style, regulator in the tank setup? My pressure also drops on free revving, and gets even worse under load (WOT) with a stock pump, stock lines, etc., pressure being measured at the rails.

The fact that pressure is say 62 at idle vs. 58 driving down the road is indicative of the regulators inability to bypass fuel. The pump capacity is exceeding the regulator.

The inability to hold 58 at WOT, is either the lack of pump capacity or the fact that you are measuring fuel pressure at the front, but controlling it at the rear. Any pressure drop due to the lines cannot be compensated for unless the regulator is at the front.

Sorry for the delay in response but left the area for the holiday. The tank is a stock 55 Chev. with an in tank pump installed. It is vented and I have never had the cap feel like it was in a vacumn. I hooked up a line from the bleeder valve on the fuel rail and tried to get an idea of the fuel flow but the flow killed the engine in a couple of seconds so it didn't flow but a few ounces.

Thanks again for the help
John

Oldvett54,
You are running a return system arent you?
What type of regulator?

What size wiring are you using & where are you getting your power source from?

Yes. The aeromotive fuel regulator returns the fuel to the tank. The pump has a fused 12 gauge wire from a stock 2002 Camaro fuse block to the in tank pump. The ground is a 12 gauge wire to the frame cross member.

Thanks,
John
