Default Vortec 7400 EFI on a 540cid mark IV BBC

Hello guys,

I have bought a 540 BBC short bolck with a lot of goodies

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...em=110201411962

and would like to implant a the fuel injection of Vortec 7400 / 454cid:

http://jobyteknik.homeip.net/pickup/2005-11-08_454/ (did not find a better source)

I know a guy who sells the a Vortec 7400 injection system (I think the name is MPFI) and he told me that he knows that the swap would work as he got another one also installed on a mark IV BBC.

Otherwise I have been told that the that engine (should actually a gen 6)
got already that peanut ports.
If that is not true please tell me what intake ports that engine got, rectangular, oval...

What else would I need except the.

1, Plenum

2, Harness

3, Computer

4, probably the stock fuel pump or one with the right preassure

5, Injectors

6, Fuel rails

A short list would be very useful to control if it is complete and ready to run.

What sensors are included,?

Can I convert the distributor to a cam trigger working with the Vortec EFI?

What hints would you give me for that swap?

Any help appreciated

Kind regards

Hannes

I'd run the stock vortec engine management system as a complete package wo tinkering it will run fine with a nice tune. You will for sure have to upgrade to larger injectors the stock 7.4L injectors are only 19lb/hr and suck even in a stock application. In order to run the vortec crank trigger use a 1996 up 7.4 timing cover and reluctor wheel on your 540. IS the 540 a one piece or two piece rear main seal? You will either have two drill two holes or plug two with silicone to run the newer timing cover on the 540 depending on if it is a newer or older design block. It is a hair rigged but will work fine I have done it on a couple of trucks that we've done various things with at work.

The 96Žup Vortec got already the crank trigger???

Very interesting, I saw that the late Vortec 7400 also got coil near plug coils already.

Other possibility would be to use only the Vortec 7400 plenum and the rest could come from any LS1 engine. That way I would already have the late model EFI. Question is how to mount a cam sensor? Where is it located?

Thanks Hannes
