Default Fuel pressure 68 psi at idle?

I tapped into my shrader valve at the rail and just at idle i'm getting like 68-69psi. The car is running like crap and its smoking really bad. Could this be a programing issue or a bad fuel pressure regulator? And what should fuel pressure be at idle. Car model and mods in sig.

base is ~58psi

umm...so 68psi is too much.

hard to say whats at fault here...

did u replace the intank pump?
do u have an aftermarket adjustable fpr or just the stock one bolted to the rails?

So i'm guessing its the fpr. What are my options? Should i go adjustable or back with the stocker?

fpr is in the tank, cant use an adjustable unit unless you want to re-engineer your whole fuel system.....

im sorry...meant in the tank...been running and adjustable one at the rails for so long.

weird your regulator took a crap on you. just buy a used unit off fleabay or here and replace the hose with the regulator on it.

So you have your stock fpr in the tank and another on the rails? I dont know what hose you are talking about, isnt the regulator held by some clip to a black housing inside the bucket?

no..the one in the tank was removed.

years back....u can run an adjustable fpr under the car..there is a rubber fuel hose u can splice into and run a vacuum line to it. there might be a thread from way back in the day about how to do this. it was easy to do without having to upgrade the rails and put the regulator up front..served it purpose under the car.

i stopped working on my fuel stuff after i needed more fuel....i hated smelling like gas..

I changed the regulator and the sensor that goes with it. I am still reading 68-70 pounds at the shrader valve. WTF!

Is this a known working gauge? I haven't upgraded my fuel pump as of yet, so is your pump before or after the pump?

Brand new fuel pressure gauge kit from oreilly's. It is made just to check the fuel pressure, and comes with different adapters for ford ect... Innova Equus brand.

Well this is f~up. I think the reason my car is idling like *** is because of a spun rod bearing. i started to hear a knock yesterday when i finished intalling the new regulator. I figure the computer is trying to compinsate by throwing off the timing. I am completely bumed out.

The computer does not control the fuel pressure. Are you sure the knock is not something else? It could be a bent pushrod or loose header bolt. How's the oil pressure?

oil pressure is good. My damn exhaust is too loud i can make out what exactly it is except that it is a loud knocking sound. The car sounds like its misfiring, but i'm not reading any codes.
