Default Evap system delete?

Hi Im in the middle of getting fuel steel braided pressure and return lines, and I wanted to know if I can delete the third line that goes to the evap sensor and back to the intake? or do I need to run it? I dont care about emissions

Leave it inplace you may not care about emissions but you will care when your car stinks like fuel all the time. It vents the fumes from the tank through the intake to be burned. Add a braided line to it to clean it up.

OlMastaScrilla did you cut it where you cant see it in the engine bay? and did you just placed a small breather on the end?

I second the pics .. i just removed the whole hose up underneath and capped it off. I have a 94 and ran the fuel lines inside the fender to hide them also.

My buddy and I both deleted the EVAP systems and put a vent at the tank on the old evap line ... LEARN FROM OUR MISTAKE, DON'T DO IT.

When the tank/fuel gets starts to get hot (from fuel recirculation and the fact that the muffler is right underneath the tank), it will spew fuel vapor and your whole car will be saturated with it. The fumes literally made me SICK - stomach would get upset if I had to drive it for 15+ minutes, and I'm not kidding, it would give me the runs. It didn't take long and I said enough it enough, and put the EVAP back on.

My buddy couldn't take it either, but instead of putting the system back on immediately, he just capped the EVAP line. Fumes went away, but it would build so much pressure in his gas tank that his tank would make these terrible groaning noises ... Kind of like the ones you hear in the movies when a submarine is diving way too deep and the crew is wondering if they are about to be crushed. EVAP went back on after a few months of that.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone taking the EVAP off their car is messed up in the head - you're most likely taking years off of your life just to remove one line, a small solenoid and a 2 pound plastic EVAP box that's tucked away out of sight.

Im not saying to remove the whole evap system... He just wants to eliminate the 3rd line to clean up his engine bay and install braided fuel lines. The charcole canister is still gunna be there to cut down on fumes. All i was sayin is to cut the line inside the fender well, and cap it off with a breather. Eliminating the purge solenoid and the extra line he doesnt want showin. I cant get pictures since i dont have a working digi sorry guys.

I removed all the evap system on mine, and I haven't had any gas smell. The only problem I have is, I can't fill the tank as fast. I guess the vent for the tank doesn't work too good now.

What i did was remove the whole line and cap off the metal line under the car. motor is being built so i have no clue if i will smell anything. it looks better without the evap wire, hoses, and solenoid.

also do you think my way of doing this is okay? where did you find such a small breather? what exactly does the breather help with?

Ya i dont see why it would be any issue, some people do say there tank can build up pressure though without having some kind of ventilation system so i would keep an eye out for that. The breather I got was just a cheap $5 one, I got it at auto zone I think. I put the breather on there hoping it would keep stuff out of the line and possibly help cut down on fumes.

Firechikn,

My observations lead me to believe that the OEM tank vent (white plastic, snaps into a bracket on the frame next to the tank) must be a one way valve - i.e., it lets air in, but doesn't vent out.

Yeah, I checked it while it was on the floor and seemed to work o.k., but after I put it in the car and filled up the first time, I noticed the slow fill. It's not that big a deal. I'll probably pull it back out one day when I fill frisky, and check it out.

If you completely cap it off you need to run a vented gas cap so it wont build up too much pressure inside the tank. I left my charcoal canister there and added the filter and I dont smell any gas whatsoever.

Not to bring up a dead thread, but on a 2001 car, where is this charcoal canister? I;ve had the tank out and don't recall seeing it anywhere. I want to rip the evap solenoid (black plastic thing next to the intake with a plug on it) and the line out of the engine bay in an effort to try to clean it up as much as possible.

Now, the line in the back, has one of those quick disconnects to it if I remember correctly. This line, could you put a PCV valve on it or some type of one way valve on so that when the tank does need to allievate pressure it can, rather then just putting a cap on the line? I run a 118 race fual, and would like to prevent it from all evaporating out the line if possible.

I don't have any exhause near the tank anymore so there's no heat from that getting to the tank, if that will help the situation.
