Default Gas tank swap!

I have a 98 camaro ss with the metal gas tank. I am curious if there are any advantages to swapping to the later plastic tank. Are there any differences (weight, wiring, plumbing)?

the plastic tanks have different mounts for the pumps. so you might have issues there. I haven't performed my swap yet, so I can't answer. I've read that the filler tube is held to the body differently as well, but once again, cant confirm this yet.

Sending unit is different and has different values. Filler and lines are different no advantage I can see.

Actually the disadvantage of swapping to a plastic tank is the actual pump location within the tank. The metal tank places the pumps toward the rear for better fueling under hard acceleration. Unless you tank is rusty or you are running corrosive fuels (like methanol) I would keep the metal tank.

The metal tank is only 23lbs dry, not much if any weight savings.

Wow, that sucks. I was going to have a custom metal tank made and cut off the mounting bracket from a metal tank and then slip the whole sending unit from my current plastic tank inside it. If this won't work, what other way can I mount my current Sending unit?

I think the units are the same, its just the mounting that is different. You might be able to fab something up.
