Default 98 TA Fuel Pump install...

I bought a Walbro 255 today to throw in my 98 Ls1 car I just got on Wednesday. The car had a big *** amp rack in the back from a previous owner. I was taking it apart cause I don't need the added weight slowing me down and I noticed whoever installed the amp rack decided to use 2 inch wood screws to screw a damn 2X4 in the center exactly where the Fuel pump sits. So I rip it all apart and cut a nice access hatch to get to the pump when I saw this...

Yep...the idiot drove those damn screws into the tank. I used to throw big systems in my cars back in the day, but holy $hit can somebody explain to me who uses 2 inch wood screws through the floor!?!?

Well I am gonna bring the car over to my buddy that welds Gas Truck Tanks and have him fix it up. The pump is on hold until then. I will post more pics up soon.

Seriously. The Evap system is supposed to be able to detect a leak that is as small as 1/1000 of an inch, those two holes should have thrown a code.

It would throw a code when the screws were removed. As long as the screws are there it's sealed

True, good point. I was thinking the holes were from the drill, not the screws.

From the pic it's hard to tell.It could be a drill bit or a screw hole. But it looks like something leaked on the top of the tank probably gas you can see those stains,If this is the case thank your lucky stars your car didn't ignite.

Yeah it was definitely leaking! Those holes were not clean like a drill bit would make. He just screwed 2 X 8 wood screws through there. When I pulled the screws out I could smell gas instantly. Remember, when I pulled those out there was carpet and everything so none of this was visible.

I installed a new fuel pump recently by dopping the tank and my gas gauge is not working what tool did you use to cut that acess hole.

I used a cut off wheel. Make sure to throw some duct tape down. The tank sits about 1.5 inches down, so make sure you don't lay into the cut off wheel to low.
