Best fuel pump?

I just experienced some loss in power and issues with starting the car yesterday so when I checked the fuel pressure it was down pretty bad. Since it is time for a new fuel pump, I want to go the cheapest route. I still want the pump to last and be of good quality, but I don't think I have the money to pay for the labor on the in-tank setup. What do you guys think I should do? I need to fix this problem soon cause my TA is my everyday driver.
PS. It's a 94 Trans Am.

http://www.racetronix.com/RX-FLT1-FPKG-2.html <-- fuelpump, get the harness as well...trust me.
and to do the install, go the trap door methid (I assume it works on LT1 cars, somone please verify!)
http://taekwondoplus.org/z28/fuelpump.html
did the trap door on my LS1 car and it was a breeze! It took longer to cut the hole in the car than it did to replace the pump if I remember correctly!
edit: Ah Ha! Here you go man, this is it (it works on LT1's): http://www.geocities.com/formulapower2/fuelpump.html

sweet. So this pump will be fine for performance and stuff on the car? What kit did you say I should choose? The website u gave me has the harness and a bunch of different kits. I don't have a lot of money.

well if you want to go cheap, you can probably skip out on the harness for now, you can always add that later with ease if you do the trap door method ![Winky](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_wink.gif)
and yes, that pump will support any future performance mods you do within reason.

easier. to do an external one youd need to mod the fuel lines AND remove the stock pump etc, wire it up properly and a list of other crap I know I'm forgetting. Trust me, you want to go the racetronix route for sure.
I think I would still lean towards getting Plus Bundle for $228 though, it comes with the ground upgrade, pump and harness. The factory wiring truly sucks, and by going the harness route, you bypass the factory wiring for power and just use if as a trigger to pop a relay. Many people run this setup on these boards, I'm sure they will agree it is worth getting the harness and doing it right, especially with the age of your car and thus wiring.

yeah, but you need the racetronix LS1 pump, not LT1. I'm not sure on 98's (they are odd ball) but on most LS1's the window is cut in a different location.
99+ is here: http://www.gonicd.com/intankinstall/...mpinstall.html
I think the 98's might be the same location as LT1's but I'm not 100% sure on that.

well labor would be free if you can do the work yourself. It really isnt that hard, but if you take it to a shop they are going to want to drop the tank and I have no idea how much that will cost. If you can print off the write up and talk them into cutting the access panel, they migh tnot charge you as much because it won't take as long...then again they just look up how long it should take and then estimate billing based on that. I guess it will heavily depend on which shop you go to.
as far as that ebay pump, I don't know. I think there have been knock off pumps going around ebay so I would be a little weary about going with that one. It says it is "similar to Walbro in design and flow" which is code for "this is a cheaper pump" I think I would play it safe and go with raceronix, a sponsor on here and a name you can trust. Plus they provide everything you need to replace the old pump. I would not cheap out on the fuel system, but this is your car so do what you want.

The ones on Ebay are china copies of the Walbro pump not good. We carry several different pumps for your needs including the Racetronix pump. Give me a call I will set you up with what you need.

I went with the racetronix setup. I, too, have a '94 LT1. I, too, don't have a lot of cash. I, too, recommend you don't go cheap on your fuel system. It's your fuel system, bro.

I did the kit, and I am glad I did. I did it myself, using the trap door method. The Racetronix is a drop-in kit, no modding of the fuel pump bucket. And the harness insures enough current at high speeds to the pump. I took my time, and it took me a short weekend to do everything.
And stay away from the ebay pump; pure Chinese junk and you will be replacing it again soon if you buy it. As to their QS9000 quality certification, "On December 14, 2006, all QS9000 certifications were terminated." So they are bragging on a non-existent standard.
