Default wot pinging

At wot I have pinging(det)and black smoke out of the exhaust. Help!!!! I have run 93 oct. Exxon gas since the car was new.

Try an octane booster, reduce timing check plugs. If they are stock plugs pull them out and throw in a set of NGK TR-6 plugs gapped at .038. The stockers are POS.

why .038??? why not .055??? I thought .38 was for nitrous...wouldnt that burn really hot for a stock motor???

TR6 are for nitrous, ditto on .038.
NGK's TR55 are good. with your mods .55 is also good. I run DENSO IRIDIUMS at .55.
Check your A/F ratio. Tune it properly.


As for black smoke, if it persists after tune, READ your old plugs, if one or more show oil deposits, check compression on that cylinder/s.
Post your findings for further help.

Ok, retraction in effect, he lives in Tx, its hot there right? Good try the TR6 gapped at .038 or so, maybe a little more but not more than .040". TR6 are a colder step plug therefore keeping the flame back enough to help compensate for higher intake charge temps. Dont ask why, I am dont have a Doctorate, but they work ok. NataSS had some issues laterly in the hot weather. I use TR6 cause i do spray and race....A LOT. But never hurt me NA wise, I might give up an irish pubic hair but thats worth it to me and not have detonation problems. Ditto on the tuning suggestions.

OK!!!! I check the comp. >>>> it's OK. Replaced the Denso plugs (dry but w/ a little carbon) that came w/ the car with the NGK TR55 >>> gapped @ 55, that took care of the problem. My best freind today was a 1/4 inch extension.
