Default aluminum an fitting galling

just ruined my 2nd!! Professional Products fuel regulator i got from speed inc due to the an fitting galling in the regulator port. i had only screwed the an fitting in a small amount, realized i had not put any tape/paste on it, and tried screwing it back out. it almost immediately started to seize up. what the hell am i doing wrong? this is getting expensive! (and i did not cross thread by the way). anybody else experience this or am i the only idiot on here (no reply necessary!)

btw just ordered an aeromotive regulator. don't want to screw this one up too!

That is the problem with pipe thread and aluminum fittings screwing into aluminum parts. That is why you see a lot of companies going to AN thread.

so is this a problem with PP regulators or will the aeromotive have the same issue? how do u prevent this from happening?

*edit* - noticed the aeromotive is -6 an ports vs the 3/8 npt on the speed inc regulator.

Aeromotive regulators seal on an O-ring and not thread sealent. You will have zero issues with the Aeromotive unit.

You need to use some sort of sealant before you assemble any of the fitting to prevents this from happening. You can use teflon paste or even red loc-tite.

on the first one i did use teflon tape and i still had 1 an fitting seize up in the regulator. since the aeromotive uses the o ring i plan on using a dab of oil or blue loctite on the threads. is this ok with the o-ring?

Absolutely no loctite!! Use some oil on the oring and you will be fine. As mentioned the old threads are tapered and will seize without sealant or if run in too tight.

I use a light 20-ish weight oil on all of my o-ring boss fittings (just on the o-ring), and have never had an issue.

I personally HATE pipe threads. I paid more for my fuel rails and regulator just so I wouldn't have to look at nasty pipe thread connections.

thanks everybody. by going the cheap route initially i have more than doubled the cost of a more expensive system i was looking at! another lesson to be learned. u would think after spending 1000s on the turbo kit/etc another 100 or so on a quality setup would have been a gimme.

If you use steel AN fittings, you should not have that problem in the future.

AN thread requires no sealant. The fitting seals on an oring.

If it is AN thread yes it requires an oring. If it is pipe thread it needs teflon tape to seal.
